I really enjoyed listening to this episode! Yes, I enjoy Aretha's cover, but I can't deny the piano work on the original. It's really beautiful how you broke down all the chords. It's interesting how artists can write great songs, but have it sound better when other vocalists cover them.

Blown away when I hear Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water again, and really enjoyed Paul's explanation of how he wrote it in the Cavett interview. Thanks for curating all these videos!

Your points about Paul Simon's "Steal like an Artist" approach to composition are well taken. Some just take advantage. These folks you mentioned should have gotten composer credit. Maybe not a full share but a share none the less. Regarding your comparison of Art Garfunkel and Aretha Franklin, it's seemed to me like comparing Lang Lang to Bill Evans. Can you cross genre's like that and still be fair? Garfunkel himself said he liked Aretha's version and that she “brilliantly brought it back to church” but I'm sure it wouldn't fit anywhere on his and Simon's album.

I think comparing Aretha to Art Garfunkel is fair, he and Paul Simon invite the comparison by doing a gospel song in the first place. I wouldn't compare, like, "Sound of Silence" to "Baby I Love You".

I think it would be fair if we compared Simon and Garfunkel's rendition to Simon and Franklin's but pulling out the second man of a duo and comparing to Franklin?

I'm comparing Garfunkel because all Paul Simon sings on the song are some harmonies on the last verse.
